PEI Marathon Corporate Relay

GroupShotCrossFit PEI had a strong showing at the 2009 Corporate Relay with CrossFit Black and CrossFit Blue in the top three finishing first and third.

Scott started Team Blue off with a strong run in the 10k handing off to Megan for the 5k. Gerry took over at Grand Tracadie for 6.1k with Simon running strong for 3.9k. Amanda grabbed it and ran hard for 3.7k and then gave it to Val for the next 2.7k.  Bish took it at Union Road blasting down the road to Joey for the final 6.8k leg of hills. The team brought it in at 3 hours and 18 minutes.

Nathan had a great 10k run for Team Black with Steve getting there just in time thanks to some fancy driving from Spencer. Steve ran a strong 5k with Spencer taking over at Grand Tracadie putting in a great 6.1k to the halfway mark. Jeff took it for the 3.9 k running hard to Cheryl who ran like the wind for 3.7k. Hannah, with Anne in tow, then put in a great time for the 2.7k leg with Rob sprinting another 4.0 k to Mike for the final 6.8k. The team brought it in at just 49 seconds over the 3 hour mark.

Thanks of course to Heather and Tracy and everyone else who helped by driving support vehicles. With two teams it was a constant shuffle but no one got left behind.

It was great to see so many from CrossFit PEI at the finish line.  Dave H. took some amazing pics which are posted on Flickr – see them here.

Big congratulations to Cheryl as co-chair of such a successful event. There were even more participants than last year in the marathon and 49 teams in the Corporate Relay. The weekend was really well organized. Thanks to everyone on both teams for running so hard. Chris G, Scott K and Jeff H were also on other corporate teams.

Awesome job by Gary who was a pace bunny. Pam, Monique, Kelly and Cecile (who was down from Montreal) did great on their own today. Am I missing anyone?

Lots of fun>> woooo hoo. Crossfit PEI is a great community and it starts at the top with the leadership. David and Mike Tanks a lot. There could have been any of the members there today and results would have been great. Dave Hyndman – very nice pics..

Nathan MacDonald is a MMMMachine… MMMachine and a fine young man. Hannah Ives is a speed demon: I was worried if Anne would catch her..way to go Hannah. Bish said at the Gahan that he thinks he could take you: if you were not allowed to listen to your tunes.

Great post Steve. I totally agree. Each person really gave everything that they had in them (btw thanks Spencer for the pace coaching on the home stretch).

It’s worth noting that the competition was definitely stiffer this year – both teams’ times would have won last year.

Another great event, echo comments above especially the support. Great to see so many people at the finish line and both team supporting each other. Can feel the distance and hills in the legs today :)

Congrats and well done everyone……this was my first relay and will not be my last. I heard some comments at the finishline and race legs about those crossfit guys really support each other as a team and I think that says it all.
Was it just me or was the final run in after cooling down as hard as the actual running legs?

Amazing job everyone! I had a fantastic weekend and it was so great to get to see my Crossfit PEI family again. I miss Charlottetown like crazy… and all the people that made it so special for me!

thanks for the kudos…but there were hundreds of volunteers that pulled this event off….like crossfit, the running community on PEI is very strong and supportive of each other and is producing some tremendous runners. Very impressive stuff. 2:32 and 2:53 are marathon times that would stand on top in the region, I am certain of it. And will for quite some time, until Stanley and Jenn smash them again.

the relay was a blast, and no Simon I don’t think you are alone in that feeling of hurt in the closing kilometer.

What could be a better day…CrossFit and Running mixed!

Thanks Megan for running my leg with me on Marathon day….YOu REALLY helped me speed up. I’ve been running as a ‘snail’ for 25 years, and on marathon day I was at least a ‘turtle’ pace. By next year, I hope to really pick-up-the-pace. I’m joining a speed running session ‘once per week’ if I can find one through the ‘road runners’. Again- Thanks for your help and putting up with my yelling!
